ESAB has unveiled its new Rogue EM 180 (ESAB MIG/MAG/MMA) and Rogue EMP 210 (ESAB Multi-Process) compact and lightweight inverter-based welding power sources. Rogue EM 180 and Rogue EMP 210 make it easier to weld with optimized arc settings because they feature advanced digital interfaces and offer functions such as Synergic Control and Arc Dynamics, a control to fine-tune arc characteristics for a crisp/stiff arc when welding carbon steel or a smooth/soft arc when welding stainless steel. Stand visitors will be able to weld with the Rogue EMP 210 so they can experience the reasons why it appeals to users in the light fabrication and light construction industries, auto repair and restoration, metal art, maintenance and farm/agriculture industries.

With Synergic Control, sometimes called “one knob control,” welders set the wire type, wire diameter and shielding gas mix. The machine will then automatically set and maintain optimized welding parameters throughout the range of material thicknesses, eliminating the guesswork associated with traditional controls. To weld faster or “hotter,” simply increase wire feed speed. To weld slower or “cooler,” decrease wire feed speed. A “trim” or voltage control enables fine-tuning arc length to produce a flatter bead or a higher crown.

“The Rogue series represents ESAB’s ability to transfer the features and benefits of our heavier industrial machines into light industrial welders that meet the diverse needs of welding professionals and first-time welders,” said Olivier Biebuyck, President, Fabrication Technology, ESAB Corporation. “The industrial technologies found inside Rogue make it easier to improve weld quality and productivity.”

“Rogue EM and Rogue EMP welders build on the Rogue brand promise of an unbeatable combination of performance, power and price,” said Mike Sammons, Global Product Manager, ESAB Light Industrial Products. “Combined with our award-winning MMA and TIG Rogue welders, ESAB now offers a broad portfolio of feature-rich-yet-affordable machines that delivers benefits for users of all skill levels.”

Rogue EM 180
The Rogue EM 180 weighs 16.2 kg, connects to 230V mains power and has compatibility with 10 kVA generators. It provides a maximum welding output of 180A for welding with mild steel, stainless, aluminium, silicon bronze and cored wires up to 1.0 mm. It also provides an MMA output of up to 150A for welding with electrodes up to 3.2 mm.

A 14-segment digital display shows parameters and details. Users can set voltage and wire feed speed (which controls amperage) with traditional controls, or they can operate the machine in synergic MIG mode with the additional controls found inside the wire feed compartment. Using the display and adjustment knobs, operators can set advanced functions found in industrial systems, such as wire run-in speed (for softer arc starts), burnback control (to ensure the wire does not stick in the weld puddle), 2T/4T trigger control (standard or “latch” mode to reduce hand fatigue) and gas pre-flow and post-flow (to prevent weld puddle contamination).

Rogue EM 180, as well as the Rogue EMP 210, accept 100 and 200 mm diameter wire bobbins.

Rogue EMP 210
For even more performance and flexibility, the multiprocess Rogue EMP 210 provides a MIG/MAG output of 210A, an MMA output of 180A and a TIG output of 210A, all at 25% 30% duty cycle. Operators can use mild steel, stainless, aluminium, silicon bronze and cored wires up to 1.0 mm, MMA electrodes up to 4.0 mm and tungstens up to 3.2 mm. The Rogue EMP 210 weighs 16.7 kg and connects to 230V mains power power and has compatibility with 10 kVA generators.

Rogue EMP 210 features a 110 mm (5-in.) TFT LCD display that enables users to access a full suite of advanced process controls to further improve welding performance, such as 10 JOB locations for saving and quickly recalling favorite JOB’s.

For MIG/MAG welding, controls accessible through the TFT display include setting timers for spot welding and stitch welding and gas pre- and post-flow. For MMA, users can select MMA arc characteristics optimized for basic/rutile electrodes (e.g., 7018 and 6013) or cellulosic electrodes (e.g., 6010 and 6011). An adjustable Hot Start function increases current beyond the set value for a few milliseconds to help establish the arc. It especially helps with low-hydrogen electrodes, which can be notoriously difficult-to-start. Its adjustable Arc Force control increases amperage when the arc voltage drops below a preset threshold. As a result, operators can hold a shorter arc length without the electrode sticking, which is beneficial when welding in narrow gaps, in corners and out-of-position.

Rogue EMP 210 and Rogue EM 180 also feature Power Factor Correction (PFC). PFC increases electrical efficiency, reducing the likelihood of tripping a circuit breaker. PFC also compensates for the voltage drop that occurs with long extension cords, helping maintain a steady welding output.

The package includes a 210A multi-process power source with mains cable, MXL 201 MIG torch with 3m cable, three feed rolls for common wires, a Handy 200A heavy-duty electrode holder, gas hose with quick connect and samples of filler metals (ESAB OK AristoRod 12.50 0.8mm 1kg and ESAB GoldRox Electrode, 2.5x350 mm 1 kg).
